Lincoln County 11-12 Year Old All-Stars
Take 2nd at District

Many parents, family and friends made the trek to Battle Mountain for the District III tournament and their support was greatly appreciated by the coaches and players.
In game 1, Lincoln defeated Fernley 7-3. Game 2 vs. Ruby Mountain with Lincoln prevailing 11-1. Game 3 vs. Elko, Elko was on top 10-5. The loss put Lincoln in the losers bracket and they would have to beat Elko twice for the championship. In game 4, Lincoln faced Fernley for the second time, and dominated with a 14-3 win.
It was down to the final two: Lincoln and Elko. It was a great game, but a loss for Lincoln. The final score was 2-1, Elko. It was an error-free game, and all three runs were via the fence and “outta’ there!” Tabor Maxwell was “on target” and had 10 K’s (strike-outs).
Ken Maxwell, scorekeeper for Lincoln, noticed an Elko batter had not had his “at bat”. It was brought to the attention of District Administrator Sandoval and a call was made to San Bernadino. The decision was made to sanction Elko’s coach by not allowing him on the field at the State Tournament in Carson City for the first two games. I understand, however, that decision may be rescinded. We hope not!!
Several players hit homers throughout the tournament. McClain O’Connor – 3, Blake Linares – 2, Nate Cottrell parked 2 and Mike Wood – 1.
In retrospect, I asked coaches Dell O’Connor and Ed Vincent for a quote about the tournament. Coach Ed Vincent said, “It was a great tournament. It would have been nicer to win; we left the cherry off the sundae”. Coach Dell O’Connor stated, “I feel we did our best, it was a hard loss to take.”
