03-11-2010 Premier Performance for New Lincoln County Theater

Premier Performance for New Lincoln County Theater

By Pete Peterson

The brand new Lincoln County Theater for the Performing Arts (formerly the gymatorium) is opening with its premier performance of Disney’s High School Musical.  The facility will knock your socks off.  It is acoustically sound, has great lighting and a dynamite stage.  It has the capability of seating 255 people.  The facility replaces the Frank R. Wilcox Auditorium that was destroyed in 2001.  It has been a long time coming but residents and students alike are excited with the prospects of bringing a facility capable of holding larger crowds to Lincoln County.

High School Musical is based on the Disney Channel Movie (not the other way around) and is a fast paced, high-energy romp of peer pressure and cliques in high school.  It is the heartfelt story of a modern Romeo with his Juliet – two young people from very different worlds who fall in love but are forbidden from chasing their dreams because of expectations.  Troy, played by Dallin Pearson, the school star athlete finds that he can also sing and he enjoys it.  Likewise, Gabriella, played by Natalie Harr, is a girl that is a wiz at math who also finds she can do other things.  Jhena Shumway, playing Sharpay, is the multi-talented but arrogant drama queen who has had the “lead role ever since kindergarten.”  Her twin brother Ryan, played by Jayden Gubler, doesn’t have quite the same aspirations but wants to shine none-the-less.  Chad Dunsforth and Taylor McKennsie, played by Kade Cox and Aryn Anderson respectively are the poles that pull on the Troy and Gabriella to Stick to the Status Quo.

The play has a cast of 34, one of the largest in LCHS Theatre de Masque history.  It includes the talents of Calista Thomas on many piano numbers and students from the LCHS Show Choir.  Mindy Anderson has choreographed most of the songs and they are spectacular to watch.

The cast has been working hard in classrooms and the Lynx Lair at LCHS for several weeks anticipating the opening of the facility.  By opening night they will have only practiced in the new theater for 2 ˝ weeks.  But they are ready to shine and perform in this energetic performance.

Mark your calendars for High School Musical to be performed five nights: March 18, 19, 20, 22, and 23, 2010 at the NEW Lincoln County Theater for the Performing Arts.  Show time is 7:00 pm.  Ticket prices are $6 general admission and $4 for seniors over 60 and children under 11 and under.
