Lincoln Trio Highlights All-League Awards

By Dave Maxwell

Three men from 2A State runner-up Lincoln County were recently voted All-League honors from coaches in the 2A Southern League.

Eric Rippetoe, Dantley Walker and Bruce Condie were the Lynx players named to Southern League honors.

All three played the entire 32 minutes in Lincoln’s 71-64 loss to Incline in the state championship game.

Walker, a junior, was named the league Player of the Year. Senior post Rippetoe highlighted the first team and senior wing Condie received second-team honors. Lincoln Coach Mike Wood shared Coach of the Year with The Meadows Coach Gary Hannig.

Interestingly, Hannig and Wood both played on the Lincoln County 1990 state championship team.

Speaking of his star trio, Wood said, “Those three are like clockwork.  They play all 32 basically every game unless there was foul trouble.”

Walker, a 5-foot-11-inch sharpshooting 3-point specialist, averaged 32.4 points per game. Wood said Walker raised his game to new heights as a junior because of his leadership and passing abilities.  “How he sees the floor and how he’s able to get the ball to the open guy was probably the biggest change.”

Dantley has been looked at by a couple of small schools Wood said, with even a couple of offers. Brigham Young associate head coach Dave Rice watched him hit nine 3-pointers on his way to 42 points in 78-73 win over Enterprise (Utah) on December 30.

The 6-5 Rippetoe was not far behind Dantley in scoring prowess, averaging 24 points.  He scored 35 points in the 100-83 win over Rite of Passage in the state semifinal game last week. “It was a tremendous combination,” said Coach Wood. “They probably scored 80, 85 percent of our offensive output. That was our one-two punch.”

Condie, who averaged 6.5 points per game, was one of the Lynx top perimeter defenders.
